NOLA: THE BAYOU
One of the selling points for a trip to the French Quarter in New Orleans, Louisiana (aka NOLA) was the opportunity to visit the bayou. Since we only had an extended weekend in the city, we signed up for an airboat swamp tour to get a small taste of the area and potentially see some wildlife. We had particularly hoped to see a few alligators.
Takeaways: 1) The airboat can travel super fast and in shallow areas over vegetation. 2) Gators like marshmallows. 3) We timed this trip perfectly to see baby alligators! They hatch from mid-August through early September. 4) Gators mostly ignore people. 5) There are homes out on the bayou.

Memorable Moment: Holding a baby alligator!
