THE RIALTO MARKETS

One of our most memorable activities while in Venice was our early morning visit to the world-famous Rialto Market. The Erberia (produce market) and Pescheria (fish market) were bustling with activity in those early morning hours. Locals were haggling with fishmongers over mountains of fresh eels, crabs, octopuses, and various kinds of fish (many we had never seen before). This seafood was so fresh that many pieces of the catch were still writhing in their ice displays! It was understandable why Venice is known for its seafood dishes.

If you find yourself in Venice, be sure to spend some time "window shopping" at the Rialto Market. It's an experience you won't soon forget.
