TOP 5: NATIONAL MUSEUM OF SCOTLAND

Our trip to the United Kingdom allowed us the opportunity to visit the National Museum of Scotland. While we had researched the top museum attractions before our stop in Edinburgh, we still found ourselves completely overwhelmed upon arrival. It was obvious we would burn out and start to hate each other if we tried to see every object on display within the three hours available to us before closing. How were we supposed to tackle this museum?

Our saving grace was the museum map (thank you, museum!). It provided a selection of treasures in each of the galleries and facilitated a brief tour of the entire building. We had so much fun searching for the highlighted items listed on the map while pausing in the galleries that caught our interest. By the end of the day, we felt like we had a good overview of what the museum offered and saw so many interesting things!

What were our personal top five favorite attractions at the museum?

1 TYRANNOSAURUS REX
The life-size skeleton cast of T. Rex sure made us feel small, and it reminded us of the Night at the Museum movie.

2 AMETHYST GEODE
This geode was huge! It was probably more interesting to the one of us who studied geology in college.

3 DOLLY THE SHEEP
It's not every day you can see the first cloned mammal created from an adult cell.

4 LEWIS CHESSMEN
Check out the detail carved into the walrus ivory. Our favorite piece was the guy biting his shield.

5 COFFIN OF AN EGYPTIAN QUEEN
Ancient Egyptian artifacts are just cool in general.

Also, be sure to take the elevator to the roof terrace for an incredible view of Edinburgh Castle. Read more about how to see Edinburgh in one day HERE.
