THE FAIR VERONA

Destination: Verona | Italy | Europe

Traveled: May 2013

Strategy: While staying in Milan, we took advantage of its proximity to Verona and jumped on a train for a day trip to the famous city.

Adventures: Piazza Bra, Roman Arena, Piazza delle Erbe, Piazza dei Signori, Lamberti Tower, Juliet's House, Scaligeri tombs, Roman Theater, Ponte Pietra, Porta Borsari, Castelvecchio

Memorable Moment: Eating lunch and people-watching in the park.

Takeaways: Verona is a much larger and more beautiful city than expected.

Recommendations: 1) Buy the Verona Card. It’s a cost-effective way to visit the tourist attractions. 2) Pay the extra euro to take the elevator in the Lamberti Tower. Your feet will thank you. 3) Visit Juliet’s House early in the day to avoid the tourists.

Next Time: While the day trip allowed us to visit the majority of Verona's famous attractions, it wasn't quite enough time to really enjoy the city in its full glory. Next time we'll stay a night or two, stroll the streets, people watch, and enjoy the local cuisine.
